Born on September 3, 1967, in Istanbul, Turkiye, Prof. Acemoglu received his bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Istanbul and went on to earn his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1996. His academic career includes positions at various prestigious institutions, but he is best known as a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Prof. Acemoglu made extensive contributions in the fields of political economy, development economics, and economic growth. Some of his key contributions include institutional economics, economic growth models, political economy, human capital and inequality and development and economic history.
