The Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) is pleased to announce a nationwide campaign to raise $100,000 for Syrian refugees living in Turkey. TCA will match every dollar contributed as part of this campaign with a goal of raising a total of $100,000. These matching funds will double the impact of support from Turkish Americans and friends of Turkey across the country.
All funds will be allocated to fund specific project requests from humanitarian organizations such as One Refugee Child, Refugee Volunteers of Izmir (ReVi), Small Projects Istanbul, Bütün Çocuklar Bizim Derneği, and Sureli Destek who work directly with refugees on the ground in Turkey.
In the worst humanitarian crisis since World War II, more than half of Syria’s population has been displaced since the civil war began in March 2011. More than 4.5 million Syrian refugees are being sheltered in just five countries: Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, and Egypt. Turkey is currently host to over 2.7 million refugees, more than any other country in the world. These refugees, over half of which are children, are in desperate need of humanitarian aid, often such basic needs as food, water, shelter, and clothing.
Helping those in need is a long-standing tradition for Turks. It is also a core value shared by Turks and Americans. In this spirit, TCA has previously made significant humanitarian donations to victims of natural disasters in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Philippines, Haiti and Mexico as well as to Chaldean refugees in Turkey who were displaced by the wars in Iraq. Now, TCA is launching a nationwide campaign to raise $100,000 for Syrian refugees in 2016.
