On May 16, the Co-Chairs of the Caucus on U.S.-Turkey Relations and Turkish Americans sent the following letter of condolence to the Ambassador of Turkey, H.E. Serdar Kılıc, expressing their “heartfelt condolences in wake of the tragic coal mine disaster in Soma.”

Dear Mr. Ambassador,
We write on behalf of the Caucus on U.S.-Turkey Relations and Turkish Americans, and as
friends of the people of Turkey, to extend our heartfelt condolences in wake of the tragic coal mine disaster in Soma.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the nearly 300 victims. We hope for further
successful rescue efforts and pray that those injured find a path to recovery.
We stand together with Turkey, a longstanding friend and ally of the United States, during this
time of national mourning.
